Nick Scheman - New BASA Principal

The Board of Education named Nick Scheman as the principal of the Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy. He will succeed Dr. Dale Simpson. Mr. Scheman has been an educator for over 30 years in public and private schools. He served as a high school science teacher for over 20 years before moving into administration.

Most recently, Mr. Scheman has served as the Assistant Principal at Gainesville High School where he led professional learning, PLCs, and Advanced Placement. Prior, he worked at Chestatee High School in Hall County as an Assistant Principal, AP Coordinator, and teacher. Mr. Scheman was the AP Coordinator and lead administrator for RTI. He created and directed the Renaissance Academy, a rigorous school within a school program. During his tenure, Mr. Scheman also helped to co-create the innovative Hall County DaVinci Academy.

Mr. Scheman also worked at Riverside Military Academy for nine years, where he served as the Chair for the Science Department and Middle School Interdisciplinary Studies.

Mr. Scheman earned his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Southern Illinois University. He completed his Master of Science in Environmental Biology from Governors State University in Illinois. He earned his ED in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College.
