Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Barrow County School System is proud to be a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school system! Students in a PBIS school develop and learn social, emotional, and behavioral competence which supports academic engagement. When students are taught to successfully use important social skills for themselves and with others, school climates are described as more positive, learning environments are thought to be safer, and student-educator relationships are referred to as more trusting and respectful.

After working in Palm Beach and Gwinnett Public Schools, I moved to Barrow County in 2008 to continue my work as a Special Education Teacher. For the past 7 years, I have supported administrators, teachers, and students with behavior management.

My passion is coaching others on how to respond to individuals in behavioral crisis through preventative and de-escalation strategies with PBIS – Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies. Preventative strategies include Mindset Preventative Strategies, along with Social Emotional Learning, Behavior Management, PBIS, Behavioral Intervention, and Behavior Modification.

Preventative strategies lead to a better climate and culture. Kids and teachers will feel safe. They will feel supported. And when that happens, they can focus on our reason for being at school – teaching and learning.
