Debby Hawkins: January 2023 BOLD Difference Maker

Every day, members of our community are instrumental to the success and welfare of our students and staff. To show appreciation, Superintendent Dr. Chris McMichael started the Community Member of the Month to recognize these individuals who are making a BOLD difference behind-the-scenes.

We're happy to recognize Debby Hawkins as the January Community Member of the Month. Debby is one of the lead volunteers with New Path 1010 - a community organization focused on ending systemic poverty and devoted to feeding Barrow County School System students who otherwise wouldn't have food over the weekends. Debby is retired from BCSS and has seen firsthand the needs of children with food insecurity at home.

Previous New Path 1010 Executive Director Todd Faulkner nominated Debby for the integral part she plays to make sure weekend food bags are packed and delivered to schools to help nearly 300 students. "Debby helps source, pack and deliver the bags every week without fail. If we are short items or can't find the inventory we need, she will search and find something for replacement with her own money and time. Debby is vital to New Path 1010. She makes something vital to the community seamless. She is a humble servant who loves to help others."

Along with New Path 1010, Debby also volunteers with Mothers Against Drunk Driving®️ (MADD) and speaks at schools and county events about the dangers of impaired driving.

Thank you, Debby, for the incredible difference you are making for the students and families of Barrow County.
