School Social Worker of the Year Stephanie Byrd

The School Social Worker Association of Georgia has awarded Stephanie Byrd as 2023-2024 School Social Worker of the Year for District 9.

Stephanie has served Barrow County School System as a school social worker since 2008. She contributes to student support teams and special education committees and works with parents and students to discuss attendance concerns. Stephanie has special training in Critical Incident Stress Management, Vicarious Traumas, and Suicide Intervention. She also is instrumental in the Feeding Barrow program where she helps coordinate packing and distribution, food drives, and our district's SOUPer Bowl fundraiser program. All these initiatives help our underserved families have their basic needs met.

BCSS Director of Student Services Dr. Christina Lowe says, "She contributes immensely to our school social work program and is one of the best social workers I have had the pleasure of working with in my career. Stephanie is a team player who has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom in her field."

Stephanie says, "I am blessed to be solely a school social worker for 29 years. I am passionate about the students, families, and staff I serve.As a social worker with BCSS, I work with the best support staff. It takes a village, and I am glad to be a merchant that believes we are Boldy Committed to Student Success."

She will now go on to be considered for State School Social Worker of the Year.
