Students Completing Pathways Have Higher Graduation Rates


Students that complete pathways in high school are posting high graduation rates. Overall, Barrow County School System beat the state average for students involved with the Advanced Academics and World Language pathways.

Apalachee High School topped the state’s graduation rate in every pathway, which included Advanced Academics (100), World Language (99.2), Fine Arts (96.9), and Career Technical and Agricultural Pathways (97.6). Winder-Barrow High School earned a
perfect score for World Language (100).

Pathways prepare students for career opportunities that will lead to multiple postsecondary options for advanced studies and skills. Students will be able to use these skills in a university or college setting and/or many career fields. There are four types of pathways:

  1. Advanced Academic Pathways - Students complete an Advanced Academic pathway when three units of credit from English language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies have been successfully completed and additional criteria met.
  2. Career Technical and Agricultural Pathways - Students complete at least three sequential classes taken within one of the ;seventeen career cluster areas, such as marketing, health science or many others.
  3. Fine Arts Pathway - A student can complete a Fine Arts Pathway when three units of credit from courses have been successfully completed in any one of these four areas: dance, music, theatre, or visual art.
  4. World Language Pathway - A student can complete a World Language Pathway when they earn credit in: (1) three distinct world language high school course codes or (2) two distinct course codes plus a third code reflecting an AP course , IB course, or a post-secondary enrollment course in the same World Language.
