Last Week of School Update

BCSS Families,

Thank you for your perseverance and focus the last nine weeks that we have been Learning from Home during the COVID-19 pandemic. While there is excitement about the last week of school, please know that BCSS leaders are already planning for when school resumes. We look forward to sharing updates as we get closer to that time. Here are a few final updates as we wrap up this week and school year.

1. Last Week of School
The final date to submit work is Wednesday, May 20 for all students. Electronic report cards will be available by 5 p.m. on May 22, 2020. You can access electronic report cards through Parent Portal.

2. Graduation Celebrations
You can tune in for the Graduation Celebration for each high school this week. Seniors, families and the community will be able to watch the program online. After speeches are complete, staff at each high school will be delivering diplomas to graduating seniors at their primary address.

  • Winder-Barrow High School: Wednesday, May 20 at 6 p.m.
  • Apalachee High School: Thursday, May 21 at 6 p.m.

You can watch the commencement address on BCSS YouTube, school websites, school and district social media accounts, or on BOLD TV – Xfinity Channels 21 and 24. In-person graduation ceremonies are tentatively scheduled for July 29 (WBHS) and July 30 (AHS).

3. Kindergarten Report Card
For the 4th grading period, the Kindergarten Skills Checklist will be uploaded as an assignment in your child’s Google Classroom. It will be available for parents to view by 5 p.m. on May 22, 2020. Parents will need to sign in to their child’s Google Classroom to view the assignment. The schools will also be sending out additional information to all Kindergarten parents through Remind prior to May 22. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.

4. Returning Chromebooks
If your child checked out a Chromebook from the school, we are asking families to keep those devices until we resume school in the fall. If your child will not be returning to BCSS next year, please contact your school principal to coordinate the return of the Chromebook.

5. COVID-19 Family Survey
If you have not participated yet, please complete the short survey on the impact of COVID-19 for each student you have enrolled in Barrow County School System. Your input will help us to better support our students as we move into the next school year. The survey closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

6. Bell Time and Transportation Survey
The Barrow County Board of Education is considering two bell time and transportation proposals for the 2020-2021 school year and would like your thoughts. If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes and complete the bell time and transportation survey before June 1.

7. Virtual Arts Gallery
Our BCSS Fine Arts teachers are proud to share students' masterpieces with you in a Virtual Art Gallery! Enjoy more than 1,000 pieces of art representing the creative talents of students from each school through this link: tinyurl.com/barrowgallery

Have a wonderful and safe summer,
