District 7 At-Large Board of Education Seat Filled

On Thursday, February 9, 2023, the Barrow County Board of Education conducted interviews to fill the District 7 At-Large Seat, which Bill Ritter had previously held. The Board of Education selected Kayla Hendrix to fill the District 7 At-Large seat.

When a school board member resigns their seat before the end of their term, letters of interest are accepted from interested candidates. Candidates must meet the minimum requirements for holding public office in Barrow County and should submit a detailed letter of interest in the position. Letters of interest were accepted from January 11 through February 3, 2023. A total of 16 letters were received.

Board Members reviewed the letters on Tuesday, February 7, and narrowed the list down to seven candidates to be interviewed. Candidates interviewed included: JD Godbout, Tara Jones, Christy Singley, Kayla Hendrix, Paul Benvenuto, Colleen Lizardi, and Chad McIlvenna.

Interviews were open to the public. The Board of Education selected Kayla Hendrix to fill the District 7 At-Large seat. Once Hendrix is sworn in, her term will begin. It will expire on December 31, 2026.
