Carol and Gene McGrevin Scholarship Fund Announced

Carol and Gene McGrevin Scholarship Fund

We are excited to announce that Carol and Gene McGrevin have established a scholarship fund of $10,000 for BASA students. This year, two tenth grade students will be selected to receive $5,000 scholarships for college.

Carol and Gene McGrevin are fierce advocates for public education. They believe strongly in the value of a college degree and are intentionally investing in our students’ educational futures. They have dedicated their lives to working in the fields of education and medicine.

Carol McGrevin serves as Board Chair for artsNOW, a non-profit organization located in Winder at the Center for Innovative Teaching. Her connection with Barrow County through artsNow has inspired the McGrevin’s to establish a scholarship fund at the Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy (BASA) that will help provide motivated students with the means to pursue their dream for a postsecondary education.

Scholarships were crucial to the McGrevins when they both attended the University of Pittsburgh. From others’ generosity, they experienced firsthand how important it is to give back. The couple hopes that these funds will inspire the students they aid today to help others in the future. They also desire to build a relationship with the student to provide encouragement periodically throughout high school and college.

Two Barrow Arts and Sciences students will be named Carol and Gene McGrevin Scholars. They will receive a non-renewable award of up to $5,000 towards the pursuit of four-year college education, payable directly to their college or university for tuition expenses. It is available for students that demonstrate academic promise, financial need, and a commitment to learning.

Eligible Students must be current BASA 10th graders, have a 2.5 GPA or higher, be eligible for Free/Reduced lunch, have good attendance and behavior, be drug/alcohol free, and be on track to graduate from high school within 4 years.
