CLES & HES Named Literacy Leaders

State School Superintendent Visit

Congratulations to Holsenbeck Elementary and County Line Elementary Schools for being recognized as Literacy Leaders! Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods visited Barrow County School System on September 18 to present HES Principal Aperil Sellers and CLES Principal Diane Bresson with banners.

The banners signify reading growth at schools based off the Georgia Milestones Assessment. Blue ribbons are given to schools scoring 90% or above on the exam last school year. Green ribbons are given to schools that had a minimum 15-point increase from the previous year. State Superintendent Woods says the banners and ribbons are meant to encourage, motivate, and recognize everyone who helped with the reading growth.

BCSS Superintendent Dr. Chris McMichael says, “It’s all about growth for kids in Barrow County. I am proud of our fantastic Barrow BOLD team for all they do to help students improve and achieve. Thank you to Superintendent Woods for bringing proof of that with this recognition.”

School administrators and teachers attended the banner presentation and were thanked for their hard work involving the reading achievements.

HES – 18.8-point Milestones Reading growth
CLES – 16.2-point Milestones Reading growth

During his visit, State School Superintendent Woods also gave each school enough pocket-sized versions of the U.S. Constitution for each fourth grader.
