Claire Smith
Assistant Principal - Starting July 2025
Claire Smith brings nearly 26 years of experience in education. She began her teaching career in Barrow County, where she spent five years teaching 7th Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies at Winder-Barrow Middle School. During her tenure, she also developed a grant-funded after-school Reading Challenge program. In recognition of her dedication and impact, she was named Barrow County Teacher of the Year for 1999–2000.
She later joined Alps Road Elementary in Clarke County, serving as a K–5 Early Intervention Program (EIP) and Gifted teacher, as well as an Instructional Coach. After 12 years in Clarke County, Claire returned to her roots in Barrow County, where she has spent the past eight years as an Instructional Coach at Statham Elementary School.

Stepping into the role of Assistant Principal at Statham Elementary is an exciting opportunity to continue supporting our incredible school community in a new capacity—one focused on student growth, teacher support, and success for every student.”
Claire is a proud mother of two sons - Riley and Henry! She loves dogs, traveling, reading, and spending time at the beach.
