Feeding Barrow

(Collaborative Partnership)
In 2008, BCSS began a partnership with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia to provide weekend food bags to our students. Unfortunately, under this program, BCSS was only able to serve a limited number of students from 2008-2017 and many students remained on a "waitlist" to receive weekend meals.

During 2018, Feeding Barrow became a collaborative program between the Barrow County School System and three partner agencies (New Path 1010, Nothing But the Truth and the Food Bank of NEGA) to provide weekend sacks of kid-friendly food to K-12 children who do not have enough to eat from Fridays to Sundays. These meal bags are discreetly sent home on Friday afternoon with 400 of our most at risk students each school week. New Path 1010 serves 87% of our students and Nothing But the Truth and the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia serve 13% of our students in need. Together with these three agencies, we are now providing over 400 students with meals bags for the weekend, and have NO students on a waitlist to receive food.

As our partnership with these three agencies grew, our fundraising campaign changed to share funding with these partners in fighting childhood hunger in Barrow County. All three agencies are 501-(c) 3 non-profits and donations are tax deductible. 100% of funds collected only goes to purchase food for students in Barrow County. Donations to the Feeding Barrow program (formally known as Barrow Food 2 Kids) will be divided among these three non-profit agencies, who have been reliable partners with the school system and have demonstrated a passion to serve our students. This multi-partnership allows us to provide students with quality food they desperately need.

Donations can be mailed to Ellen Petree, 179 W. Athens St. Winder, GA 30680. If you are interested in learning more about this amazing program and how you can help alleviate childhood hunger, you may email Ellen Petree or call her at 770-867-4527.
